    Atongo Zimba was born in the savannahs of northern Ghana in 1967. His grandfather taught him how to play the koliko or molo – a two stringed calabash lute - at a very young age. Like many of his contemporaries, Atongo was enthralled by the sounds of Fela Kuti’s afrobeat. Inspired, he left his home town to discover the musical idioms of the surrounding regions, and then lived in Lagos, Nigeria – becoming the opening act for Fela Kuti at his legendary club, The Shrine. Following the nomination of his third European release “Barefoot in the Sand” as best African Album of the year in Holland, where his record label is based, Atongo Zimba and his band have performed at major festivals all over the world.     August 3rd 2013 sees the return of Music Event One, Medway’s independent music festival held in the heart of historic Rochester, which will this year be headlined by legendary punk rock outfit Buzzcocks. Buzzcocks are one of a very few bands performing today that genuinely deserve the adjective ‘legendary’: one of the original holy trinity of British punk (with the Sex Pistols and the Clash), innovators of the independent record scene and genuine punk rock superstars who have been cited as inspirational by bands as diverse as REM, Nirvana and Green Day. Joining Buzzcocks on the punk/mod themed main stage will be the exclusive first ever gig of Graham Day and the Forefathers, formed from one of the most influential bands of the Medway scene in the 1980’s, The Prisoners. Continuing the mod-revival theme are Chris Pope & The Chords UK from cult-band The Chords. Completing the main stage line up are the exciting Dexters, who have played this year’s NME Tour.
